Wendell A. Angelo

April 5, 1930 — October 23, 2014

Bonita Springs, Fla. – Mr. Wendell A. Angelo, of Bonita Springs, died Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Framingham Union Hospital. He was 84.

Wendell was born in Waltham on April 5, 1930, the only child of the late Anthony and Maizie (Bohannon) Angelo, and graduated from Waltham High School in 1948. On October 22, 1950 he married his sweetheart, Elaine C. LeLievre, in Saint Joseph's Church, Waltham. The couple settled in Waltham to raise their family and after retirement began splitting their time between Yarmouth and Bonita Springs, Florida.

After high school he attended Northeastern University in Boston and later earned his bachelor's degree from Fitchburg State College. For almost forty years Wendell worked for the missile systems division of the Raytheon Company.

A hobbyist since his youth he could fix almost anything electronic or mechanical. He loved tinkering and had the patience of Job when it came to completing a tedious project. Throughout his life he was a skilled pool player and loved spending time with his grandchildren who affectionately called him 'Papa'.

For those that met him for the first time Wendell left an impression of a man possessed of a strong character, simple honesty and a gentle spirit. A humble man by nature he could best be described as warm, loving, kind and generous; testimony that is shared by all of his six children, their children and their friends.

In addition to his beloved wife of sixty-four years, Elaine, he leaves his children, Deborah M. DeFilippo and her husband, Thomas, of Waltham, Brian T. Angelo of Bonita Springs, Florida, Paula M. Landry and her husband, George, of Waltham, Pamela J. Baker and her husband, Mark, of Shrewsbury, Michelle L. Keirstead and her husband, Clifford, of Waltham and Lynnette M. Wardwell and her husband, Jeffrey, of Wakefield; sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will honor and remember Wendell's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Sunday, October 26th from 3 to 7 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
