Bourne Mr. William J. Bannan, Jr. of Bourne, formerly of Waltham, died Monday August 8, 2005 at Falmouth Hospital. He was 82. Born in Waltham, a son of the late William J. and Alice (Thompson) Bannan, he was a lifelong resident before moving permanently to his summer home in Gray Gables two years ago. Until his retirement, Mr. Bannan was the City Solicitor for the City of Waltham for thirty years. He also had a private practice with the law firm of Harvey, Bannan and Bannan. He was a graduate of Cranwell Preparatory School, Boston College, Class of 1946 and Boston University Law School. During World War II he served with the U.S. Navy. Mr. Bannan was a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, former president of the Massachusetts Town and City Attorneys Association, a member of the Joseph F. Hill American Legion Post #156, the Knights of Columbus, the Jaycees, the Massachusetts Bay Investment Trust, all in Waltham and the Boston College Alumni Association. He had also been a trustee at Waltham Hospital for more than 25 years. He leaves his wife, Marie L. (Lanagan) Bannan; his children William J. Bannan, III of Buffalo, NY, Kathleen M. Magee of Princeton, Elizabeth M. Gallagher of Norwell, Kevin A. Bannan of Hingham, and 9 grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Mary Missal. The Funeral will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Marys Church, 133 School Street, Waltham at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Boston College Alumni Association, 825 Centre Street, Newton, MA 02458-2527.
