Waltham – Mr. William C. Butler, of Waltham, died Monday, October 23, 2017 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. He was 84.
Bill was born and raised in Belmont, a son of the late Oliver and Charlotte (Avery) Butler, and was a graduate of Belmont High School. After that he served with the United States Army during the Korean War.
Following his marriage in Saint Ann's Church to Somerville native Louise I. Bennett the couple moved to Waltham where they became lifelong members of Our Lady's Parish. Always handy by nature Bill put his electronics training in the Army's Signal Corp to work and established Butler Electronics in Waltham.
He was also a talented musician and singer who belonged to the Joseph F. Hill American Legion Post No. 156 Band for years. He played several instruments and never let a show end without first joining in a robust version of 'God Bless America'.
Bill also belonged to the 'Singing GranPops', a traveling chorus who entertain and perform throughout Greater Boston. Another group that claimed him was PFC John M. Sullivan USMC Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10334 in Waltham.
Happy summers were spent at the family's cottage at Lake Boon and Bill indulged his passion for boating as a longtime member of the Watertown Yacht Club and the South Boston Yacht Club.
In addition to his wife of sixty years, Louise, Bill leaves his children, Brian O. Butler and his wife, Darlene, of Acton, William J. Butler and his wife, Camille, of Vandalia, Michigan and Steven A. Butler of Stow; his grandchildren, Kendall Louise, Rory Robin and Amanda Butler; his sister, Joan A. Kellogg of Acton and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was also the father of the late Robin L. Butler and brother of the late Robert O. Butler.
Family and friends will honor and remember Bill's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, October 27th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Belmont Cemetery.
