Mr. William G. Chase, of Watertown, died Thursday, March 28th in the VA Medical Center in West Roxbury. He was 95.
Bill was born in Boston on June 21, 1928, a son of the late Bernard and Glenna (McGregor) Chase. Raised in Brighton, he joined the Merchant Marines when he was 16 years old and at 18 joined the United States Navy during World War II.
Upon his discharge he worked in construction and earned a reputation for his good craftsmanship and honesty and ultimately served as a superintendent for the Perini Corporation until his retirement. Projects he worked on include the Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant, Massachusetts Turnpike, the Callahan and Sumner tunnels, and in various MBTA projects.
In 2022 he proudly received his high school diploma from Brighton High School, an accomplishment many men of his generation put on hold to serve the nation during the war. Bill was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter #45, in Waltham.
Throughout his entire life he was an avid Boston sports fan. From the former Boston Braves to the Celtics, Red Sox, and Patriots he loved following his beloved teams. He also enjoyed thoroughbred horse racing. The Kentucky Derby and watching his favorite jockeys at Suffolk Downs brought him much joy and excitement.
Bill was predeceased by his wife, Irene M. (Waters) Chase, his son-in-law, Daniel Salcido, his step-children, Robert Nagle and David Nagle, his grandson, Michael Chase; and his sisters and brother, Ethel Maxwell, Pauline Olsen, and Bernard Chase.
He leaves his children, Linda S. Chase of Taunton, Chief William G. Chase (Ret.) and his wife Joan of Harwich, and Karen L. Withrow and her husband Warren of Rehoboth; his step-son, Richard Nagle and his wife Gail of San Diego; his grandchildren, Brianna Traw, Sean Nagle, Sam Nagle, Courtney Gagnon, Kelly Lopez, Courtney Rich, and Chase Withrow; eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and their families.
