Waltham Mr. William R. Humble Dowd of Waltham died Thursday, July 24, 2003 in his home. He was 64. Born in Boston, Mr. Dowd was a graduate of Charlestown High School. He was employed as a technicial specialist for the waste water management division of the Polaroid Corporation for thirty one years. Mr. Dowd loved Old Orchard Beach in Maine where he went fishing and camping. He was the New England AAU Diving Champ and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Dowd was always helping people. Mr. Dowd is the son of the late James H. Dowd and Florence (Davidson) (Dowd)Russo and the brother of the late Joseph H. Russo Jr. He is survived by his wife, Nancy L. (Balch) Dowd; his children, David L. Dowd of Hudson, Linda S. Maillet of Arlington, and Sharon L. Dowd and her fiancé, Garreth Brannigan, of Waltham; his grandchildren, Norman L. Maillet Jr., Daniel R. Maillet, Michael W. Maillet, and Steven D. Maillet; his brothers, James Dowd of Texas and John Dowd of Florida; his sisters, Marie Hughes of South Dakota, Catherine Dowd of Framingham, Carol Ann Gill and Joan Lloyd both of Ashland; his mother in law, Flora Balch of Waltham; and many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 10 am in the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street, (Rte. 20), Waltham. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4-8 pm.
