Waltham – Mr. William J. 'Bill' Fay, of Waltham, died Tuesday, April 3, 2012, in Mount Auburn Hospital, Cambridge. He was 78.
Bill was born in Brighton on August 28, 1933, a son of the late John and Mary Fay. He was raised and educated in Brighton before enlisting in the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean War.
He married the former Anne K. McDevitt, also a Brighton native, on October 11, 1958 and the couple moved to Waltham in 1963 and have been residents since. Until his retirement Bill worked as an electrical engineer for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, first in Charlestown and later at their facility on the Arborway in Jamaica Plain.
In addition to his wife of 53 years, Anne, Bill leaves his son, Robert J. Fay and his wife, Susan, of Waltham; his grandsons, Brendan Fay and Connor Fay; his sister, Eileen Boston of Carver; his brother, Robert Fay of Florida and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was also a brother of the late John Fay and Mary Fay.
Family and friends will honor and remember Bill's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Saturday, April 7th, from 2 to 5 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Monday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Jude Church, 147 Main Street, Waltham, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Watertown.
