William 'Frank' F. Fagan

October 3, 1924 — March 7, 2018

Waltham – Mr. William F. "Frank" Fagan, of Waltham, died Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center, Northbridge.

Frank was born in Brighton on October 3, 1924, a son of the late Edward and Margaret (Nally) Fagan. He left high school early to help provide for his family and shortly thereafter joined the United States Army.

He arrived in Europe on 'D-Day' plus one, June 7th, 1944 at Normandy and participated in the Battle of the Bulge during the winter of 1944/45, Central Europe, Northern France and finally the Rhineland. He was in Germany when the surrender came on May 8, 1945. Frank was awarded a Bronze Star Medal.

After he arrived home from the war he married his sweetheart, Waltham native Ruth M. Bates, on November 9, 1946 in Saint Mary's Church. He then went to work as a truck driver for the Nabisco Company and in his early 40's he enrolled in the Massachusetts Radio and Electronics School and became a quality control technician for Anzac Electronics until his retirement.

In retirement he picked up a love for the game of golf and enjoyed golfing daily, sometimes twice daily, at the Leo J. Martin Golf Course in Weston. He enjoyed travelling throughout the country with his family and many happy summers were spent camping on the Cape in Brewster. Frank was the 'ace of all trades' and there wasn't anything he couldn't fix, for himself or a friend in need.

He was the beloved husband of the late Ruth M. (Bates) Fagan and is survived by his children, Jean M. Freedman of Waltham, Janet M. Frye (Steven) of Milford and James F. Fagan of Burlington; his grandchildren, Kenneth Freedman, Ellen Samiagio (Jason) and Laura Frye; his great-grandchildren, Brian Freedman and Cody Denning and also leave nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late James E. Fagan and Paul J. Fagan.

Frank's family will forever remember the kindness and compassion shown to their father and their family by the caring staff at the Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center and Salmon VNA & Hospice in Northbridge.

Family and friends will honor and remember Frank's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Saturday, March 10th from 9 to 11 a.m. Burial will be private.
