Boston – Mr. William D. Jordan, Jr., of Boston, died Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He was 75.
Bill was born in Portland, Oregon on November 7, 1936, a son of the late William D. and Elizabeth (Merrick) Jordan, and was a 1954 graduate of Lincoln High School in Portland. After that he came east to go to college at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge where he earned an engineering degree in 1958.
He served with the United States Air Force for four years and later with the Air Force Reserve until his discharge as a captain in 1970. Until his retirement Bill worked as a safety engineer at the Massachusetts College of Art and before that held the same position for a number of years at Harvard Medical School in Boston.
Bill was a voracious reader who was always on the hunt for a good read. He was a tinkerer, a thinker and a fixer as well. He dabbled in photography and could build or fix almost anything around, in, or on the house . . . and if he found a particularly stubborn challenge Bill would find a book to teach him or a buddy to help him.
He leaves his wife, Susan Scheinfeldt Jordan; his children, William D. Jordan, III of Boston, Sharon E. Burman of Manchester, New Hampshire, Nicole M. Jordan of Cambridge, Christopher D. Jordan of Manchester, New Hampshire and Mary E. Jodoin of Nashua, New Hampshire; his brothers, Paul E. Jordan and Phillip L. Jordan both of Seattle, Washington; 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will honor and remember Bill's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, November 9th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday morning when his funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Burial will be private.
