Waltham, Mass. – Mr. William C. Kalke (1942-2017) passed away suddenly at his home in Waltham on July 23, 2017. A wonderful musician, Bill was deeply involved with First Lutheran Church in Waltham where he moved in 2013 after leaving Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

In Milwaukee, Bill created a rich church family at Bayshore Lutheran. Bill had a quick mind and quicker wit, and infected everyone around him with his delight in ideas, culture, and religion. Bill died due to complications from Type One Diabetes, which he was diagnosed with in the 1980s. He had fought the complications of the disease for over ten years but won the battle for a good independent life until the end.

Bill attended Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin to academic acclaim followed by Princeton University where he earned a Masters in Philosophy. After teaching at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina and the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, he embarked on a career as an enrolled pension actuary first with Sentry Insurance and more recently with Emjay Corporation in Milwaukee. He finished his career as an actuarial consultant with White Chalk Consulting, his own company.

He was proceeded in death by Katherine Kalke whom he married in 1965, his brother Edwin Kalke, and his parents Doris Gwen and Charles Kalke and is survived by sister, Bonnie Bullion, daughters Celise Kalke and husband Lance of Atlanta, Georgia and Martine Kalke and husband Mike of Waltham, and three granddaughters.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donation be made in Bill's memory to the American Diabetes Association or either First Lutheran Church in Waltham, MA or Bayshore Lutheran in Milwaukee, WI.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 30th, at 7 p.m. in the First Lutheran Church, 6 Eddy Street, Waltham. There will also be a memorial service for Bill at a later date in Milwaukee.
