William J. Kramer

Waltham – Mr. William J. 'Bill' Kramer, of Waltham, died Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Epoch Senior Healthcare in Weston. He was 79.

Bill was born in Boston on October 4, 1932, a son of the late William B. and Catherine (Leary) Kramer. He was raised and educated in Dorchester and attended the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. His college career was interrupted by the Korean War and he spent four years on active duty with the United States Navy. After that, Bill graduated from Tufts University with a degree in electrical engineering.

After his marriage to Veronica T. Guilfoyle in October, 1960 the couple settled in Waltham to raise their family of six children. Bill worked his entire career as an engineer for the Boston Edison Company which later became NStar following his retirement. He was a member of the PFC John M. Sullivan USMC Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10334 in Waltham.

In addition to his wife, Veronica, Bill leaves his children, William M. Kramer and his wife, Linda, of Kennebunk, Maine, Kevin J. Kramer and his wife, Heather, of Hopkinton, Janet T. Gross and her husband, Joseph, of Kennebunk, Maine, Andrew F. Kramer and his wife, Beth, of Millis, James P. Kramer and his wife, Susan, of Bridgewater and Michael J. Kramer and his wife, Donna, of Raynham; his brother and sister, Francis R. Kramer of Weymouth and Sister Theresa Joseph, SCH of Dorchester; 19 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was also the grandfather of the late Emma Kramer.

Family and friends will honor and remember Bill's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Wednesday, December 14th, from 4 to 8 p.m. and again on Thursday morning at 9 a.m. before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.

Memorial donations may be made to Children's Hospital, 300 Longwood Avenue, Boston, MA 02115.
