Mr. William J. Madden Jr., of Weymouth, formerly of Watertown died at home gathered with his family on Thursday, May 19, 2022. He was 76.
William J. Madden Jr. was born on September 13, 1945 in Boston a son of the late William J. and Alice Louise (Griffin) Madden. Raised in Watertown he graduated from St. Patrick's High School and later attended Boston College. He married Watertown native, Joanne M. Edgar in Saint Patrick's Church September 9, 1967. Longtime Watertown residents they moved to Weymouth in June 2019.
Bill enjoyed a career as a systems analyst for Sun Life in Wellesley for many years before retiring in 2009. Previously, he had worked with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Business Computer Services in Needham.
Bill loved the read of a newspaper, the challenge of a good crossword puzzle and had a varied compilation of taste in music. He had a terrific sense of humor and a dry wit. It's what endeared him to so many family and friends. Bill loved a round of golf on the course with friends but especially with his brothers because it provided them time to enjoy one another's company. Bill also had a keen interest in history and faithfully followed the New England sports teams with a particular passion for hockey.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, Joanne, he leaves his daughters, Julie E. Madden Barron (Nate) of Minnetonka, Minnesota and Jennifer M. Madden of Weymouth; grandfather of Ash Barron; his siblings, Margaret 'Peg' Madden of Watertown, Paul Madden (Mary) of Scituate, Robert Madden (Katherine) of Mountain Top, Pennsylvania, and John Madden (Janet) of Watertown; also survived by nieces & nephews.
Family and friends will honor Bill's life by gathering for a calling hour on Friday, May 27th from 9:00 - 10:15 a.m. in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington Street, Newton followed by his funeral Mass celebrated at 10:30a.m. Burial is private.
