William J. McCarthy

Weston - Mr. William J. McCarthy, Jr., of Weston, died Friday, February 8, 2008 at Maristhill Nursing Home in Waltham. He was 82. Born in Newton, a son of the late William J. and Alvida (Klingburg) McCarthy, Sr., Mr. McCarthy was a design engineer for the Standard Thompson Company in Waltham for many years until his retirement. Mr. McCarthy was an usher for forty-one years at Saint Julia's Church in Weston, a former member of the Weston Democratic Town Committee, a poll checker in Weston since 1960 and a former commissioner for the Weston Baseball League. He was a World War II veteran serving with the United States Army Air Force. Mr. McCarthy was the husband of the late Dorothy F. (Totten) McCarthy and brother of the late Helen V. Wickson and Alice M. Benger. He leaves his children, Diane M. Everitt and her husband, Robert, of Clinton, William J. McCarthy, III of Norwood, and Shawn K. McCarthy and his wife, Elaine, of Lebanon, New Hampshire; two grandchildren, Tucker and Dillon McCarthy; one brother, Robert J. McCarthy of Mitchellville, Maryland and many nieces and nephews. The Funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte.20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Julia's Church, 374 Boston Post Road, Weston at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Weston. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Saint Julia's Church, 374 Boston Post Road, Weston, MA 02493.
