Retired Watertown Police Sgt. William P. O’Grady died Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at Epoch Healthcare Center, Weston. He was 74.
A lifelong Watertown resident, Mr. O’Grady was a member of the Watertown Police Department for 36 years until his retirement ten years ago. He was a graduate of Saint Patrick’s High School in Watertown. He was one of the first recipients of a full scholarship under the Quinn bill to attend and graduate from Boston State College by scoring in the top ten out of four hundred applicants.
Mr. O’Grady was a Korean War veteran who served in the U.S. Army. An avid reader, he was a trustee of the Watertown Public Library and also enjoyed photography.
He was the son of the late Patrick and Helen (Cloonan) O’Grady and the brother of the late James F. O’Grady and Cecelia M. Cloherty.
Mr. O’Grady is survived by his wife, Joan (Wright) O’Grady; his children, Rev. Robert M. O’Grady of Watertown, Maureen J. Amedio and her husband Anthony, of Waltham and Jean M. McDonald and her husband Gerry, of Watertown; his grandchildren, Kelly, Sandy, Ryan, and Mark McDonald and Kaitlyn, Brianne, Brendan, Kerilyn, and Patrick Amedio; his brother, Edward F. O’Grady of Woburn, and many nieces and nephews.
The Funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham followed by a Funeral Mass in Saint Patrick’s Church, 212 Main Street, Watertown at 10:30 am. Burial will be in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, Watertown.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
