William E. Rice

Newton - Mr. William E. Rice, of Newton, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at home. He was 72.

Bill was born in Waltham on April 7, 1940 a son of the late John F. and Catherine (Smith) Rice. Raised and educated in Waltham he moved to Newton over 40 years ago. He married Teresa M. Giovangelo on August 12, 1977.

He worked in security for Raytheon Corporation for over 33 years, retiring in 2002. A member of the Waltham Elks No. 953 he served as a former treasurer and manger for many years. His marriage into an Italian family was the perfect union and he loved its heritage. Simply stated Bill's world was his family and everything was centered around them.

Bill was predeceased by his sisters, Patricia A. Rice and Jean Davidson.

In addition to his wife of 35 years, Teresa, he leaves his daughters, Elizabeth C. Carbone and her husband, Pasquale, of Waltham and Christine P. Carr and her husband, Duane, of Kennebunk, Maine; his step-daughter, Stacie M. Santillo of Rockland; his siblings, John F. Rice Jr., of East Lyme, CT and Eileen Putney and her husband, Lewis, of Bedford; his grandchildren, Riley Ball, Pasquale and Sofia Carbone; his in-laws, Linda Vitti and her husband, Gerald, of Franklin, Joseph Giovangelo and his wife, Ronda, of Dover, Thomas Giovangelo and his wife, Judy of Medway, Robert Giovangelo and his wife, Joanne, of Hyannis, Janet Conran and her husband, Steve, of Northborough, Richard Giovangelo and his wife, Sara, of West Roxbury, Nancy Marden and her husband, Bob, of Westborough; nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor and remember Bill's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Monday, May 21st from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington Street, Newton where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Prayers of Final Commendation will follow at Newton Cemetery Chapel.
