William D. Riley Jr., of Waltham, died Sunday, March 20, 2016 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center in Brighton, Ma.
He was born in Lowell, a son of the late William D. and Sheila Joyce (Conlon) Riley. Raised and educated in Lowell, he was a graduate of Keith Academy. He attended Boston College and earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master degree's from University of Massachusetts in Boston.
He recently retired from a division of Qualcomm in Wilmington where he worked as a scanning electron microscopist and failure analysis engineer.
Bill enjoyed spending his free time playing his guitar, reading or writing poetry, traveling, and cherished time spent with his family.
In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his brother Philip Riley; his in-laws, Geraldine Marshall, Brian Marshall and Jeanmarie Marshall.
He leaves his wife of 35 years, Katherine A. Marshall M.D.; his sons, William D. Marshall-Riley and his fiancée, Kelly Weidemann of San Diego, California and Brian K. Marshall Riley of Somerville; his sister, Sheila Riley Callahan and her husband, John Callahan of Dunstable; his in-laws, Johanna Bohan Riley of Lowell, Barry Marshall PhD and his wife, Doreen of Boston (North End), Kenny Marshall and his fiancé, Julie Tran of Allston, Kevin Marshall of Scituate, Ellie Marshall of Somerville, Debra Michlewitz and her husband, Dennis Debwohl Esq. of Queens, New York, Harold Michlewitz M.D. of Boston (North End) and his companion, Frederica Christine Frost PhD of Belmont; his nephew, State Representative Aaron Michlewitz and his partner, Maria Puopolo of Boston (North End), Cullen Marshall of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Michael Pasinkoff, Esquire of Manhattan, NY.
Family and friends will honor and remember Bill's life by gathering for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 26th from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the Newton Marriot Hotel, 2345 Commonwealth Avenue, Newton.
Bill's family offers words of thanks to the staff of St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, where he received exceptional and compassionate care. They would particularly like to express their thanks to Dominic Durrant, RN, whose care helped ease Bill, his family and friends through a difficult time.
