Waltham – Mr. William R. "Bill" Trimble, Jr., of Waltham, died Friday, March 4, 2016 at Care One in Lexington. He was 89.
Bill was born on June 29, 1926 in Flushing, Queens, New York, a son of the late William R., Sr. and Agnes D. (Kelly) Trimble. Raised in West Medford he later moved to Somerville where he graduated from Somerville High School.
During World War II he served with the United States Army in Europe as an anti-tank gun crewman.
After the war he took courses at night in Boston to further his studies. On October 4, 1958 Bill married Margaret J. Curran in St. Clement's Church in Somerville and two years later the couple moved to Waltham where they raised their family. Margaret died in March 1985.
Bill worked for over forty years in the circulation department at the Boston Herald before retiring in 2003.
An avid reader he loved anything related to history, nature and wildlife and treasured many family vacations in South Dennis on Cape Cod.
He leaves his children, Karen M. D'Amico of Chelmsford, Donna L. Sevilla and her husband, Rodrigo of Miami, Florida and Michael W. Trimble of Florida; his grandchildren, Raymond, Cristina and Andrea Sevilla, Maria, David and Joseph D'Amico; his brother, Richard J. Trimble and his wife, Mary, of Waltham and several nieces, nephews and their families.
Family and friends will honor and remember Bill's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, March 8th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
