Framingham - Mr. William J. Vasil, of Framingham, died Sunday, November 19, 2017 in Beaumont Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Westborough. He was 77.
Bill was born on May 11, 1940 in Southbridge and was raised and educated in Boston. A graduate of the former Boston Latin High School in 1958 he earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst in 1962. During that same year on October 14th he married Carol A. Giantris at St. George Albanian Orthodox Cathedral on East Broadway in South Boston. They raised their family in Framingham and have been residents there for over 50 years.
He worked for Raytheon Corporation for over thirty years before retiring in 1996. At the height of his career he was the Deputy Program Manager for the Patriot Missile Program.
Retirement afforded Bill and Carol more time to enjoy their home on Cape Cod and to travel which they did extensively throughout the country and Europe. He also took many college courses in the arts and sciences, exploring areas of interest that he wasn't afforded while studying engineering at UMASS. An avid sports fan he was loyal to the New England teams. He and Carol remained active and took up cross country skiing. As members of Saint Demetrios Church in Weston he was a longtime member of its choir.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, Carol, he leaves their daughters, Elaine C. Haney of South Boston and Lesley A. Caiola and her husband, Guy of Framingham; his grandchildren, Taylor and Brayden Haney and Ava, Drea and Alexa Caiola.
Family and friends will honor and remember Bill's life by gathering for calling hours at The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Friday, November 24th from 4 to 7 p.m. and again from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday morning in Saint Demetrios Church, 57 Brown Street, Weston to be immediately followed by his Funeral Service at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Edgell Grove Cemetery, Framingham.
