Dr. Ye Cheng Zhang, of Waltham, died Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.  He was 90.

Ye Cheng was born on September 19, 1933 in Yang Zhou, Jiang Su Province, China to Xu Dong Zhang and Guang Zhen Liu. He was the beloved husband of Jin Mei Yao for 56 years, devoted father of Guang Zhong Zhang, Peng Zhang, and  the late Vivian Jun Zhang.

Ye Cheng graduated from NanJin Medical College, China in July 1962 and practiced as an orthopedic surgeon since then to 1993 when he retired. He had a very successful career as a surgeon and treated thousands of patients. After he retired, he continued to provide his medical advice to the local hospital, Hangzhou Third People’s Hospital and mentored younger medical colleagues until May 2000 when he moved to the States.

Ye Cheng enjoyed the outdoors, physical exercise – walking, watching and listening to Chinese news, helping others and exploring different places. He was surrounded by his dear wife Jin Mei, his daughter Peng, and his son in-law Hangzhou Chen, his grandson Tom Chen and Tom’s wife Sara Tonogai, his grand-daughter Angel Zhang, his son in law Hui Min Yang, his grand-daughter Vicki Yang, and his grandson Derek Yang during his hospital stay.

Ye Cheng lived in Waltham for more than twenty years. His family is grateful to the Waltham community, the Newton-Wellesley Hospital Medical staff,  and for the medical team’s care and help.

Ye Cheng will be deeply missed by his family.
